The Black Hut is a beautifully simple, snug, contemporary space sleeping two. Lovingly designed and thoughtfully crafted, downstairs is an open-plan double height living space with log burner and a sofa bed; there is a hand-made birch kitchen with oven, hob and fridge, and a shower room with shower, toilet and sink.

A library ladder leads up to a mezzanine area with king size bed and skylight looking out over the bay or straight up to the stars. We have wonderful skies here, particularly in winter and lying cosy in bed with the Hebridean rain beating down above your head is a hard feeling to beat.

With a nod to the island's more traditional past, the Rusty Hut is tongue and groove panelled in soft earthy colours. The gable end is clad in old teak boards that used to line the famous pier at Southport, salvaged as part of its renovation in 2000. In its heyday in the 1920's the pier once hosted global entertainers including the inimitable Charlie Chaplin. Weather hardened they are rippled with character and stories.

The hut has an open-plan double height living space with log burner and a sofa bed downstairs; there is a full kitchen with oven, hob and fridge, and a shower room with shower, toilet and sink.

A library ladder leads up to a mezzanine area with king size bed and skylight looking out over the bay and straight up to the stars. The skies can be truly breathtaking here, particularly in winter, and lying cosy in bed staring up at the heavens, maybe you'll catch a shooting star, or maybe the steady thrum of Atlantic rain may lull you to a deep and restful sleep.

The hut has its own private, enclosed garden space. Shrouded by trees the patio doors look south over the old pond towards Corran Sands across Small Isles Bay. Outside there is a bench, table and chair for enjoying the peace. There's a bird feeder which we'd love you to keep topped up so that you can enjoy the wonderful bird life we have here. We've even had a sparrow hawk happily perched on the garden fence post. It is a lovely, peaceful spot for morning coffee, a late night dram, or a place to perch with a book and watch the deer, birds or Atlantic squalls drift by.

The garden also has a wood fired hot tub and fairy lights for the evening, whether you're enjoying supper or lying back and letting the aches of a Pap climb or walk around the bay seep out of your muscles. Switch off the lights and watch the sun go down and the stars come out.

Extra logs can be purchased from us when you run out or from the village shop; there are poo bags (for doggos - please keep an eye on them on site particularly and be sensitive to other guests); there is also midge repellent and a small selection of dry goods and condiments.

We keep a regularly changing selection of books and board games in the huts - some of our favourites or what we're currently reading and playing. We hope you enjoy them too, but please don't take them away with you! There's also an acoustic guitar, a sketchpad, some pencils and watercolours.

We really hope you have a special time staying with us.

Mrs. Leonards' Cottage was where it all began for us.  An old crumbling stone "butt n ben" we found hidden in the brambles and bog, it had starlings nesting inside among the weeds and ferns, a resident robin and we even found an old collection of letters written from the local school children to their teacher and its last resident, Dorothy, lost on the decaying bookshelves.

Lovingly restored over a couple of years it is now a cosy traditional stone cotter's cottage, in the heart of the crofting community of Knockrome, that will withstand the worst the Hebridean weather can throw at it. Well, it's had practice - it's been doing it for 200 years.

Mrs. Leonard’s is designed as a simple open-plan living space. It has a kitchen with hob, oven, fridge and coffee machine;  a sitting room, including a log-burning stove, at one end; and a comfy-cosy double bed, and en-suite shower & toilet with underfloor heating is at the other.

Up a library ladder, on the mezzanine level, is an additional double mattress as a day bed, which is a great space to read or doze and listen to the rain if it's pushed off plans of that Pap climb for the day; to listen to the birds outside and feel the summer breeze; or to stargaze on a crisp winter's night.

Outside there is a private south-facing garden with picnic table that looks out over the long white stretch of Corran Sands towards the village of Craighouse across Small Isles Bay.

There is wood-fired hot tub, an electric sauna for two and a cold-water outdoor shower; great to wash off a hot day (we do experience them!), to refresh after the sauna or before taking a long soak in the tub as the sun goes down. Later, you can switch on the fairy-lights for a late night supper, stargazing and chats around the fire bowl.

There is also an ice barrel up at the main shed on site for the brave (and we couldn’t rightly call ourselves a retreat if we didn’t have at least one). Chilled and filtered to a delicious 3-4 C this can become something of an in-house challenge, if you’ve a mind to... we go in every morning. Just let us know when you want to use it and we'll get it nice and fresh for you.
